Linda & Paul

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on September 24th, 2006

Linda and Paul were married in one of our favourite places on earth last weekend - Tofino. We were excited to be able to visit our fav bed & breakfast while celebrating with them and their families.

The weather on Saturday was amazing and their beach wedding went off without a hitch.

A plan had been hatched on Saturday to officially trash the dress (you’re not going to wear it again anyway!) by running into the water first thing Sunday morning. Morning came and it was POURING - there were wind and wave warnings from environment canada and it wasn’t looking promising. We were game but weren’t sure if minds might have changed from the day before…

We knocked on the door as planned at 8:30 in the morning and Linda answered the door in her wedding dress with hair still done from the day before completely ready to go. We were on!

It was probably the quickest session we’ve ever done - maybe 10 minutes total - due to a tight timeline and the drenching downpour. It turns out, though, that the rain doesn’t seem so cold after you’ve run up to your waist in jeans into the ocean!

We’ll share more when we’ve gone through them all, but here’s a taste of the fun we had. I love shooting with weatherproof gear that allows us to do stuff like this (thanks to Canon), and I love any couple who is willing to run into the ocean or any similar craziness in the interests of capturing some great images. I can’t wait to finish these!

This engagement session gets its own entry. These two are a RIOT. Not only did we hit two of their favourite bars for their engagement shoot (but only managed to get kicked out of one! ;) , we played the cowboy hat props they provided for the occasion up to the max. Way too much fun!

The wedding is in only a couple of weeks and we hear the bride & groom will be heading out on the town the night before to catch their favourite band. We might just have to join them if we can swing it!

Wendy & Chung

We had the honour and the pleasure of heading up to Whistler this weekend to attend the wedding of Wendy & Chung. Set at the beautiful Brew Creek Lodge, they were joined by so many amazing friends there to celebrate with them.

To go with the fun mood they started with the caricatures gracing their invites, they did photos of each of their guests for the guestbook accentuated by a gold frame they borrowed which fit the purpose exactly!

While their dogs were unable to attend the wedding, we got to meet them when we did their engagement session at one of their favourite dog parks a few weeks ago.

Leo & Jeff

Leo & Jeff made the treck up to Vancouver from their home in San Francisco with two of their closest friends to tie the knot last month. Everything was simply perfect from the view they had for their intimate ceremony to the bubbly and appies on the lawn at the Sequoia where they toasted their commitment to eachother.

Natalie & Scott

Natalie & Scott were a last minute booking for us earlier this month. After plans fell through with their original photographer due to a family situation, we were excited to be able to join them on our only free Saturday in September.

The weather didn’t want to participate but it didn’t phase Natalie at all. The pictures were all still outside where she had hoped they would be - here are a few of our rainy day shots!

Erika & Vermont had an afternoon wedding on Burnaby Mountain last month. The weather was beautiful, every detail was perfect, and the emotion was evident. It was an honour to spend their day with them.

Neil & Anusha

Neil & Anusha were married earlier this month with parties and celebrations spanning over a few days. These images are from the Saturday Hindu ceremony. In addition to these, we also were honoured to attend the reception the following day and to do a session with just the two of them the day after that when we could steal away for some specific images outside of the hustle of the wedding itself.

Engagement Sessions

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on September 24th, 2006

We’ve been doing so many engagement sessions recently that I need to share. Our engagement sessions are such a fantastic way to get to know our couples and for them to feel more comfortable with being in the spotlight behind our cameras.

Joni & Jason live what probably seems like a world apart but you can see the love they have for eachother in their eyes when they get to spend time together, like they did earlier this month when Jason came up to visit. They are getting married in May.

Roger & Janette are also planning their wedding for next May. The first shot was taken in their church as we did a quick session there before heading out to Yaletown for a few more urban shots.

Alexandra & Rob are planning their July wedding and we visited Stanley Park as it was one of the places that Rob took Alexandra before she made the move to Vancouver, and it was there that he first asked if she wanted to move to be here with him.

Peter & Stacey will be married in just a couple of weeks at the beginning of October. Similar to Rob & Alexandra, Stanley Park has special meaning for these two as it is somewhere they went when they first dated. We were blessed with gloriously blue skies that day, which make for amazing images!

It’s not that we don’t love you…

Gotta love technology issues! We’ve had lots of problems this year with our webhost and in the last couple weeks we’ve started having major problems with our email. We’re in the process of moving everything over to a new host, but in the meantime if you get a bounced message or if you emailed us and haven’t heard from us, you can get a hold of us at blueolivephoto@gmail.com - that’s sure to be more reliable until things are back to normal!

We’ll be blogging our recent weddings in the coming days and I can’t wait to share them with you! The highlight of late was a literal romp in the ocean in Tofino with our eager bride and groom and Reilly and I with our thankfully weatherproof equipment ;) - can’t wait to share those!

Cheers!

Alusha & Sergey

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on September 11th, 2006

This was a last minute booking for us and despite meeting these two only a month before their late summer Sunday affair, their wedding turned into one of our favourites of the season.

First of all - this girl is made to model, and Sergey holds his own in her presence. Simply put, they were stunning! The dress jumped out at Alusha from the pages of a fashion magazine and was ordered without having ever been seen in person, and it was absolutely perfect. If anyone could pull off this dress, Alusha was the one to do it.

And then the details - oh the details. As they both work at Granville Island Florists the flowers were individually handpicked and were perfect down to each petal. From the paper lanterns in the trees to the floating candles in the pond, nothing was overlooked. I will never again take a second glance when I hear the words “just a small back yard affair…” because this back yard would put most wedding venues to shame!

The passion they have for eachother is ever so clear in each picture we took, and the love they share for their daughter was also such a big part of the day.

There were so many images and it will be a while before we can go through them all, but for now here are a few of our favourites!
