Take me Out to a Ball Game (and other news)

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on August 31st, 2007

WOW!

It’s so hard to believe that September is already upon us. This summer has absolutely flown by for us - and with a whopping SIXTEEN weddings in just 7 weeks ending next weekend, it’s no wonder! That’s an average of more than 2 each week! After that we’re back to a normal one wedding per weekend for a while, so we’ll be slowing down soon. Next summer is shaping up to be just as busy, so those who are starting to plan, now is definitely the time to get in touch!

We’ve had so many - so, so many - amazing clients this year. I feel so honoured to have been there to document the weddings of such wonderful people. We’ve laughed and cried (yup, I pretty much tear up at every wedding, you just can’t see ’cause I have a camera to hide it with ;) and have been humbled by the experiences we’ve had over these past few weeks. I just cannot express how much we love what we do and how honoured we feel to have the opportunities we are granted by each of the couples who invite us to document their day.

When we do this many weddings in a row it’s almost like we never leave our creative space… it energizes us and keeps the flow going. We’re constantly coming up with new ideas and phenominal images as a result, and I can honestly say that each wedding we shoot is better than the one before it. I love it when we get in that zone, and I can’t wait to share more of the images we’ve been capturing lately when I have a chance to update the site with new work in the weeks ahead.

This weekend we’re shooting the wedding of Rebecca & Joey on Saturday, and we’re really looking forward to this one. We had such a great time with them at their engagement session and we have some plans in place for some great images tomorrow, so I’ll be looking forward to sharing those early next week. Then, on Sunday, we’re off to Ucluelet (near Tofino on Vancouver Island for those of you from elsewhere) for the beach wedding of the season of Deanna & Jimmy! What a perfect way it will be to welcome in September!

But, we won’t be stopping there. Next week we are getting the chance of a lifetime to shoot a wedding post game at Nat Bailey Stadium! Can you believe it? Following the last home game of the season for the Vancouver Canadians baseball team, Lisa and Delany will be heading onto the field to tie the knot in front of thousands of friends, family, and fans. And we’ll be there to capture it all!

So - be sure to check back next week for lots of great images from 3 wonderfully unique events. We can’t wait to share them with you!

Happy long weekend everyone!

Stef & Kevin

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on August 30th, 2007

Of course, more than just the 3D movie, we all want to see how it went, right?

It went off without a hitch! Now let’s get to the pics, shall we -

One of many details - the sandwich board. I LOVE the sandwich board!

When you get married on Zombiewalk day, you are pretty much obligated to get a photo. Well, you are if you’re into that sort of thing. Having been active Zombiewalk participants in the past, it was only fitting that we plan their session around grabbing a few shots with the zombies.

Reilly and I have been shooting under bridges for years, and we hit up 2 with these guys. The light is amazing and perfect for portraits, and especially for cars. Having shot our ‘69 beetle under this bridge and many others in the past, we knew just where to head with the ‘53 Ford that Kevin just finished! Isn’t it gorgeous?

And one of the bride here too, for good measure

For bridge #2 we ditched the car and climbed a steep hill - for an amazing image that was totally worth it. HOT!

And one more from the same location

And, finally, I’ll finish with my favourite reception detail - the record cupcake towers, handmade by Kevin & Stef.

I haven’t even touched the surface with these guys, so I’ll be sure to share the finished slideshow in a few weeks when all is said and done. I could probably do an entire post of all the guests who’d dressed up as well, not to mention the dancing, but that will all have to wait until the end!

Congrats again, we had a blast. See you both soon!

Secrets Revealed - Kevin & Stef’s Ceremony Intro, in 3D!

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on August 30th, 2007

Finally - the secret is revealed!

I hinted back when we started this project that there was more to these two, and now that we’ve surprised their family and friends I can share the end result with you!

Kevin and Stef planned their retro 50’s rockabilly wedding down to every detail, and when they first came to meet with us they shared what they wanted most - an old school silent film made out of stills to show to their guests. In 3D.

And really, who are we to shy away from a challenge?!

The logistics of production were entertaining to say the least (these aren’t photoshop effects, many of the images were shot on a 40 year old stereo camera that didn’t have much more than a shutter for controls, and the rest with a rigged up digital system that allowed us to take 2 simultaneous photos apx. 65mm apart, which is about the width of our eyes), and we put our video hats on from our independent film days to pull together the final cut. It’s perfectly imperfect - exactly what we set out to do.
So how did it go down?

When the guests were seated for the ceremony they each had an envelope holding their 3D glasses with a note to not open them. When the bride was in place and everything was ready, instead of watching the bride walk down the aisle as they were all expecting we had them open their envelopes revealing the glasses inside and the show played! The popcorn they’d been handed suddenly made sense (both for eating, and throwing!), and we had the entire room in stitches with laughter. The bride made her entrance after the show!

Some details -

And, what you’ve all been waiting to see - Kevin & Stef’s show! Now - this is in 3D and for those of you with glasses, go grab them - they’re needed to get the full effect!

Michelle & Charles

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on August 30th, 2007

What can I say about these two?!

If I had to describe Michelle it would be Classic Elegance - she was simply radiant on her wedding day this past weekend. Charles was awestruck when he first laid eyes on her, and I caught him staring at her many times throughout the day. And, really, no wonder - look at her!

Their love for eachother was so obvious, and they complement eachother’s personalities so very well. Congratulations to you both! You are a perfect match

Heather & Justin

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on August 30th, 2007

Heather & Justin are getting married at the end of September at Dundarave Pier in West Vancouver. We headed out a few days ago to Granville Island to capture their engagement images.

I don’t remember the last time I was on a tire swing, but I think the next time will have to be sooner rather than later judging by the laughter coming out of these two!

Alexa & Gary

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on August 23rd, 2007

Alexa & Gary tied the knot atop Grouse Mountain on Saturday. The kind of people who don’t tend to take themselves too seriously, we had a lot of laughs with them and their crew taking pictures around Coal Harbour before heading out for the ceremony.

And then there were the details - oh, the details. I loved the details. Fancy papers and ribbon were hiding if you looked - everywhere from the menu at the bar to the reserved signs on the chairs.  The favours became a game as instead of names they had pictures of each guest, some recent and some not so recent, prompting a game of “where the heck am I?!” for each person as they came in. The cake table was decorated with colour coordinated buttons, mimicing the candy buttons in each cupcake. And, finally, Alexa and her mom sewed the cutest little teabags for her favours out of the coolest fabric I’ve seen in a while. Not a single piece of the decor was your typical wedding fare, and after spending some time with these two I can say that it was exactly perfect.

Cheers!

Shawn & Eri were married on Friday at the Celebration Pavilion in Queen Elizabeth Park. I love it when our couples are so MADLY IN LOVE - it makes our job so much fun! We did a quick jaunt around the park for this set of images before heading into Seasons for an afternoon reception.

More to come from these two - watch the blog!

Marsha & Cuong

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on August 15th, 2007

This past weekend we headed out on a road trip for Marsha & Cuong’s Edmonton wedding! It’s always such an honour when our clients refer us to their friends (thanks L&C! great to see you!), and even more of one when we’re invited back despite being so far away.

We knew exactly where we were going to head for photos - to the country, of course! I love Vancouver but I do miss the Alberta prairies from a photo perspective!

I started out the day at the salon with the girls. Here’s Marsha getting the finishing touches -

marsha-cuong-01.jpg

And of course, the dress. It was GORGEOUS! It was made of silk and it had so much raw detail and character. I loved it!

marsha-cuong-05.jpg

Did I mention the fields? I’m still finding pieces of straw in our stuff! Reilly and I were both rolling around on the ground for this set - so well worth it!

marsha-cuong-02.jpg

The happy couple

marsha-cuong-04.jpg

And, no question, the uncle needs to make the blog. After the first dance and the father daughter dance we had a special number - an entire song of dancing with a full bottle of opened beer on his head! What a way to start a party!

marsha-cuong-03.jpg

Congrats again, guys! Thanks for trusting us on our jaunt out into the countryside for such a great set of images - we can’t wait for you to see the rest!

Natasha & Scott

Posted by Miranda - Vancouver Wedding Photographer on August 10th, 2007

Natasha & Scott were married on Sunday among friends and family at Hycroft, the University Women’s Club of Vancouver. An event expertly pulled together by the ladies over at Fuego Events, the wedding was the perfect mix of upscale class and a relaxed schedule with the only real listing on the agenda being to get married. The site was the perfect backdrop for everyone to mingle and enjoy the company!
