Originally from Vancouver, Brooke and Russ have been living in New Zealand for the past few years. We’ve been chatting with them for almost a year and a half as they planned their wedding from afar, and were super excited to finally meet when they flew to Vancouver in the days before the wedding!

I think one of the coolest things for them was that it really wasn’t just a wedding, but also a reunion - living on opposite ends of the globe it becomes a rare treat to spend time with closest friends and family.  They had a close knit group of people there to celebrate with them, and no one wasted any time in starting the party. What a blast!

Detail, details. Kudos to Paula at Aeyra Cakes for yet another gorgeous cake as well as the folks at ko-’ket design and Eleni Floral for their share of these details

So long for now, Cuba, this one’s a wrap!

Philip and Megan tied the knot at the end of May at the Royal Hideaway Ensenachos near Santa Clara, Cuba. They laughed, they partied, they got hitched. Their family and friends were a blast, and the wedding will be one to remember!

So many photos… it’s always hard to pick just a few to really sum it all up. This will be a little images heavy, but we couldn’t decide which we liked more!

CONGRATS, CONGRATS! So, next year, same time, same place you two?!  Talk about the perfect anniversary destination. We can’t wait for you to see the rest of the images, and hope life back in Calgary is treating you well. Props as well to Josh for donning the Blue Olive hat and second shooting in the land of sun and surf.

Cheers!

Destination Wedding Trash the Dress Cuba Varadero

Two down one to go… Kat and Mark’s wedding was our second of three in Cuba!

Also at the Iberostar Varadero, Kat and Mark had the same location as Liz & Brad but that’s where the similarities ended. I love being able to highlight the unique personalities of everyone we photograph. These two and their crew were quite the crowd - so much energy! My favourite shots are definitely the group trashing session in the ocean - HOT!

Liz and Brad got hitched in Cuba!

The Iberostar Veradero was the resort of choice for these two earlier this month. I love destination weddings - whether local destinations or those far away - because there really is something magical about getting away for a vacation to celebrate with your closest family and friends. Everyone is so relaxed and has an amazing time, and it really really shows.

After having talked on the phone and via email with these two many times in the months coming up to the wedding, we were so excited to finally meet them. They are both so sweet and so obviously passionately in love! The photos speak for themselves, and this is only the very tip of so many gorgeous images.

Congrats guys!

This past weekend had us escaping the cold and unseasonal snow of Vancouver and heading to Tofino - which, by some miraculous hand, was gorgeous and sunny - for Jen & Neil’s wedding.

I hardly know where to start. Everything was perfect - from the amazing outfits (two hot numbers each), to the weather, to the grand fireworks finale at the end of the night. Looking back, I can’t think of a single thing that could have been any better.

There are so many images… but I have to choose just a few! Here are just a handful of all the great shots jumping out at me so far!

First up - the shoes. They most definitely deserve to make the blog cut. Jen agonized over her decision between a certain pair of Manolos and this pair of Louboutins. The Louboutins won.

My favourite reception detail - the cheese cake. Yes, it’s a cake. Or rather, cheese setup in the shape of a cake. Either way, it was delicious, and the symbolism behind them cutting the cheese entertains me to no end!

We headed back outside after dinner for a few sunset photos. Here is Jen, looking amazing in the evening sun.

One of the surprises of the night was the quick outfit change that had these two looking like they’d walked straight out of Hollywood. Wow.

And finally, the guests were treated again at the end of the night with an amazing beach fireworks show. The perfect end to the perfect day.

CONGRATS again, to both of you! It was such a joy to be there. I’m sure you are having a fantastic time in Morocco. We’ll see you when you get back!

Wow.

You know, we go to a lot of weddings and we’ve seen countless different venues and types of celebrations. And sometimes, things really just click for us. This was one of those times.

We were married 7 years ago (as of last week! weu!) and I can absolutely say that if we were to do it all over again right now, this would be the exact way to do it.

Small, destination wedding. Not very far away though - Tofino/Ucleulet is so very close and yet feels like it’s worlds away. A big house to hold the wedding and reception as well as to provide accomodations for a sizeable group of friends and family. Beach and rocks and waves and trees. Amazing food served all night long. Mingling. Drinking. Gorgeous details and decor. And most importantly, an incredible group of family and friends to share it with.

Congratulations again to you both, from the bottom of our hearts. It was such an honour to be there to celebrate with you!

Kudos to Camilla at Crabapple Floral in Tofino who blows me away each time we do a wedding in Tofino or Ucleulet with her gorgeous work, and to our friends Albertine & Brina from Blue Skies and Daisies who did their magic with invites and website goodies here as well. It was great to see you both! Here’s one final shot of the Blue Skies clan!

WOW!

It’s so hard to believe that September is already upon us. This summer has absolutely flown by for us - and with a whopping SIXTEEN weddings in just 7 weeks ending next weekend, it’s no wonder! That’s an average of more than 2 each week! After that we’re back to a normal one wedding per weekend for a while, so we’ll be slowing down soon. Next summer is shaping up to be just as busy, so those who are starting to plan, now is definitely the time to get in touch!

We’ve had so many - so, so many - amazing clients this year. I feel so honoured to have been there to document the weddings of such wonderful people. We’ve laughed and cried (yup, I pretty much tear up at every wedding, you just can’t see ’cause I have a camera to hide it with ;) and have been humbled by the experiences we’ve had over these past few weeks. I just cannot express how much we love what we do and how honoured we feel to have the opportunities we are granted by each of the couples who invite us to document their day.

When we do this many weddings in a row it’s almost like we never leave our creative space… it energizes us and keeps the flow going. We’re constantly coming up with new ideas and phenominal images as a result, and I can honestly say that each wedding we shoot is better than the one before it. I love it when we get in that zone, and I can’t wait to share more of the images we’ve been capturing lately when I have a chance to update the site with new work in the weeks ahead.

This weekend we’re shooting the wedding of Rebecca & Joey on Saturday, and we’re really looking forward to this one. We had such a great time with them at their engagement session and we have some plans in place for some great images tomorrow, so I’ll be looking forward to sharing those early next week. Then, on Sunday, we’re off to Ucluelet (near Tofino on Vancouver Island for those of you from elsewhere) for the beach wedding of the season of Deanna & Jimmy! What a perfect way it will be to welcome in September!

But, we won’t be stopping there. Next week we are getting the chance of a lifetime to shoot a wedding post game at Nat Bailey Stadium! Can you believe it? Following the last home game of the season for the Vancouver Canadians baseball team, Lisa and Delany will be heading onto the field to tie the knot in front of thousands of friends, family, and fans. And we’ll be there to capture it all!

So - be sure to check back next week for lots of great images from 3 wonderfully unique events. We can’t wait to share them with you!

Happy long weekend everyone!

This past weekend we headed out on a road trip for Marsha & Cuong’s Edmonton wedding! It’s always such an honour when our clients refer us to their friends (thanks L&C! great to see you!), and even more of one when we’re invited back despite being so far away.

We knew exactly where we were going to head for photos - to the country, of course! I love Vancouver but I do miss the Alberta prairies from a photo perspective!

I started out the day at the salon with the girls. Here’s Marsha getting the finishing touches -

marsha-cuong-01.jpg

And of course, the dress. It was GORGEOUS! It was made of silk and it had so much raw detail and character. I loved it!

marsha-cuong-05.jpg

Did I mention the fields? I’m still finding pieces of straw in our stuff! Reilly and I were both rolling around on the ground for this set - so well worth it!

The happy couple

marsha-cuong-04.jpg

And, no question, the uncle needs to make the blog. After the first dance and the father daughter dance we had a special number - an entire song of dancing with a full bottle of opened beer on his head! What a way to start a party!

marsha-cuong-03.jpg

Congrats again, guys! Thanks for trusting us on our jaunt out into the countryside for such a great set of images - we can’t wait for you to see the rest!

Last weekend we travelled to the Sooke Harbour House on Vancouver Island for our 3rd destination event in a row! Rob & Jill travelled there with their close family and friends for their weekend away. What I love most about their choice in location is that it will be the perfect place to escape to for years to come for their anniversaries! The perfect retreat.

A few of our favourites so far - first, the flower girls!

Aimee and Sabrina travelled with their close family and friends from California to Tofino for their destination wedding this week. They were married on the beach and we went for a long walk thanks to the low tide for their photo session where we were able to capture some gorgeous images of these two ladies. Congratulations again to you both, and we hope you enjoyed your week in Tofino!
