Delany & Lisa Marie – The Wedding of the Season!

It was dubbed “The Wedding of the Season” and it certainly lived up to the name! Delany Dunn, VP of Fan Experience for the Vancouver Canadians, married his long time sweetheart Lisa Marie after the last home game of the season yesterday. Fans, players, friends, and family alike were there to celebrate with them as they tied the knot at home base.

The media was out in full force, ensuring their wedding was not only documented by us, but by every TV station and newspaper in town it looks like as well! I know they made the papers today and the news last night for sure.

The horse and carriage were a surprise for Lisa Marie by Delany – and it worked. Here’s a shot of her reaction when she saw it for the first time –

Rev. Brent Sheppard (www.heyrev.com) was on hand to keep everyone in good spirits and to get these two married, and like always, he had everyone laughing and smiling. I LOVE working with him!

Wow.

You know, we go to a lot of weddings and we’ve seen countless different venues and types of celebrations. And sometimes, things really just click for us. This was one of those times.

We were married 7 years ago (as of last week! weu!) and I can absolutely say that if we were to do it all over again right now, this would be the exact way to do it.

Small, destination wedding. Not very far away though – Tofino/Ucleulet is so very close and yet feels like it’s worlds away. A big house to hold the wedding and reception as well as to provide accomodations for a sizeable group of friends and family. Beach and rocks and waves and trees. Amazing food served all night long. Mingling. Drinking. Gorgeous details and decor. And most importantly, an incredible group of family and friends to share it with.

Congratulations again to you both, from the bottom of our hearts. It was such an honour to be there to celebrate with you!

Kudos to Camilla at Crabapple Floral in Tofino who blows me away each time we do a wedding in Tofino or Ucleulet with her gorgeous work, and to our friends Albertine & Brina from Blue Skies and Daisies who did their magic with invites and website goodies here as well. It was great to see you both! Here’s one final shot of the Blue Skies clan!

What a perfect day for a perfect couple!

To start – a shot of the dress and ultra long veil

rebeccajoey_blog01.jpg

Just one highlight from the ceremony, although I could do an entire post of just that. Held at Ryerson United, Joey’s dad officiated a beautiful ceremony culminating in some heartfelt words delivered to each set of parents before they were officially announced. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house!

Even before that though, Joey is a musician, and he surprised Rebecca by playing his guitar and singing to her as she walked down the aisle. Swoon!

And two amazing group shots! Rebecca & Joey had let us know they wanted to do some very epic group shots of their huge bridal party, so we made a plan and delivered these two shots. Either would be great up on the wall! I love the first one as an extended panoramic and the casual nature of the scene. The second, I adore the girls and how they are posed together. Stunning!

For our upcoming clients if you want to take some extra time to capture similar dramatic group shots, let us know. We have many ideas!

And, finally, a few shots of the many heartfelt toasts and speaches delivered at the reception at Fisherman’s Terrace!

Congrats Congrats!

WOW!

It’s so hard to believe that September is already upon us. This summer has absolutely flown by for us – and with a whopping SIXTEEN weddings in just 7 weeks ending next weekend, it’s no wonder! That’s an average of more than 2 each week! After that we’re back to a normal one wedding per weekend for a while, so we’ll be slowing down soon. Next summer is shaping up to be just as busy, so those who are starting to plan, now is definitely the time to get in touch!

We’ve had so many – so, so many – amazing clients this year. I feel so honoured to have been there to document the weddings of such wonderful people. We’ve laughed and cried (yup, I pretty much tear up at every wedding, you just can’t see ’cause I have a camera to hide it with 😉 and have been humbled by the experiences we’ve had over these past few weeks. I just cannot express how much we love what we do and how honoured we feel to have the opportunities we are granted by each of the couples who invite us to document their day.

When we do this many weddings in a row it’s almost like we never leave our creative space… it energizes us and keeps the flow going. We’re constantly coming up with new ideas and phenominal images as a result, and I can honestly say that each wedding we shoot is better than the one before it. I love it when we get in that zone, and I can’t wait to share more of the images we’ve been capturing lately when I have a chance to update the site with new work in the weeks ahead.

This weekend we’re shooting the wedding of Rebecca & Joey on Saturday, and we’re really looking forward to this one. We had such a great time with them at their engagement session and we have some plans in place for some great images tomorrow, so I’ll be looking forward to sharing those early next week. Then, on Sunday, we’re off to Ucluelet (near Tofino on Vancouver Island for those of you from elsewhere) for the beach wedding of the season of Deanna & Jimmy! What a perfect way it will be to welcome in September!

But, we won’t be stopping there. Next week we are getting the chance of a lifetime to shoot a wedding post game at Nat Bailey Stadium! Can you believe it? Following the last home game of the season for the Vancouver Canadians baseball team, Lisa and Delany will be heading onto the field to tie the knot in front of thousands of friends, family, and fans. And we’ll be there to capture it all!

So – be sure to check back next week for lots of great images from 3 wonderfully unique events. We can’t wait to share them with you!

Happy long weekend everyone!

Of course, more than just the 3D movie, we all want to see how it went, right?

It went off without a hitch! Now let’s get to the pics, shall we –

One of many details – the sandwich board. I LOVE the sandwich board!

When you get married on Zombiewalk day, you are pretty much obligated to get a photo. Well, you are if you’re into that sort of thing. Having been active Zombiewalk participants in the past, it was only fitting that we plan their session around grabbing a few shots with the zombies.

stefkevin_blog08.jpg

Reilly and I have been shooting under bridges for years, and we hit up 2 with these guys. The light is amazing and perfect for portraits, and especially for cars. Having shot our ’69 beetle under this bridge and many others in the past, we knew just where to head with the ’53 Ford that Kevin just finished! Isn’t it gorgeous?

stefkevin_blog06.jpg

And one of the bride here too, for good measure

stefkevin_blog07.jpg

For bridge #2 we ditched the car and climbed a steep hill – for an amazing image that was totally worth it. HOT!

And one more from the same location

stefkevin_blog10.jpg

And, finally, I’ll finish with my favourite reception detail – the record cupcake towers, handmade by Kevin & Stef.

stefkevin_blog11.jpg

I haven’t even touched the surface with these guys, so I’ll be sure to share the finished slideshow in a few weeks when all is said and done. I could probably do an entire post of all the guests who’d dressed up as well, not to mention the dancing, but that will all have to wait until the end!

Congrats again, we had a blast. See you both soon!

Secrets Revealed – Kevin & Stef’s Ceremony Intro, in 3D!

bop Wedding Photography 2 Comments

Finally – the secret is revealed!

I hinted back when we started this project that there was more to these two, and now that we’ve surprised their family and friends I can share the end result with you!

Kevin and Stef planned their retro 50’s rockabilly wedding down to every detail, and when they first came to meet with us they shared what they wanted most – an old school silent film made out of stills to show to their guests. In 3D.

And really, who are we to shy away from a challenge?!

The logistics of production were entertaining to say the least (these aren’t photoshop effects, many of the images were shot on a 40 year old stereo camera that didn’t have much more than a shutter for controls, and the rest with a rigged up digital system that allowed us to take 2 simultaneous photos apx. 65mm apart, which is about the width of our eyes), and we put our video hats on from our independent film days to pull together the final cut. It’s perfectly imperfect – exactly what we set out to do.
So how did it go down?

When the guests were seated for the ceremony they each had an envelope holding their 3D glasses with a note to not open them. When the bride was in place and everything was ready, instead of watching the bride walk down the aisle as they were all expecting we had them open their envelopes revealing the glasses inside and the show played! The popcorn they’d been handed suddenly made sense (both for eating, and throwing!), and we had the entire room in stitches with laughter. The bride made her entrance after the show!

Some details –

And, what you’ve all been waiting to see – Kevin & Stef’s show! Now – this is in 3D and for those of you with glasses, go grab them – they’re needed to get the full effect!

Michelle & Charles

What can I say about these two?!

If I had to describe Michelle it would be Classic Elegance – she was simply radiant on her wedding day this past weekend. Charles was awestruck when he first laid eyes on her, and I caught him staring at her many times throughout the day. And, really, no wonder – look at her!

Their love for eachother was so obvious, and they complement eachother’s personalities so very well. Congratulations to you both! You are a perfect match

Heather & Justin are getting married at the end of September at Dundarave Pier in West Vancouver. We headed out a few days ago to Granville Island to capture their engagement images.

I don’t remember the last time I was on a tire swing, but I think the next time will have to be sooner rather than later judging by the laughter coming out of these two!
