Eastside Culture Crawl – Come visit us this weekend!

Reilly and I are really excited to be participating for the first time in Eastside Culture Crawl this weekend!

Our live/work studio will be open tonight (Friday) from 5-10pm, and again tomorrow and Sunday from 11-6 each day. All of the Blue Olive stuff you’re all familiar with of course will be on display so if you’re wanting to meet up with us it’s a great time to pop in for some casual browsing through our work, and more importantly you’ll be able to check out some of the other creative stuff we do. Reilly has a large collection of his art photography on display, I’ll have some of my ceramics and typography line (http://www.etsy.com/shop/sassycontessa) out, and there will probably even be an impromptu performance or two on Sunday by Reilly’s band and some other musical friends. All in all, should be a great weekend!

Bridal Swap is Next Weekend! Do you have your ticket yet?

Next weekend – November 20th – is Bridal Swap by the fabulous ladies at Dreamgroup! For all those brides-to-be it’s the perfect place to find pieces for your wedding, and for past brides it’s a great opportunity to make a little cash by parting with wedding items you no longer need. The swap is taking place on Sunday, November 20th at Villa Amato, and you want to be there right when the doors open to buy at 10:30 (for advance ticket holders). Tables are also still available if you’ve got goodies to sell.

Elais & Gary’s UBC Boathouse Wedding

When couples choose to do both the ceremony and reception at the same venue I always like to stay close for photos so they can get back to their waiting guests as soon as possible. With the new landscaping and updates around the UBC Boathouse it made for a great place to walk around before heading back for the party!

The rain let up as if on queue to allow us outside for some beautiful portraits. I really adore these two and their images, so much so that I’m cheating on my own rule of 5 and am sharing 6 photos instead. Enjoy!

Bonnie & Ken’s Pan Pacific Wedding

Beautiful sunshine for the outdoor ceremony at the Pan Pacific made for a stunning backdrop to Bonnie & Ken’s Wedding. I love the whole area around the new convention centre as it’s such a great backdrop for photos that can feature the city or the water and north shore mountains – a picture perfect Vancouver setting for sure! Thanks as well to Dreamgroup for helping to pull the day together.

Viv & Gord’s Kirin Wedding

St. Patricks Catholic Church and Kirin Restaurant played host to the ceremony and reception for Vivian & Gord’s wedding. I loved sneaking a time out with the two of them in their hotel room for a few extra portraits before heading to their traditional Chinese dinner at Kirin – not only are these shots beautiful but I know it’s nice to have a few minutes of quiet before the craziness of the reception!

Following their dinner, Viv and Gord said goodbye formally to their guests and then walked across the street to join their official after party at the Shangri La for a late evening of dancing and cocktails. Love it!

Jenn & Lawrence’s Punta Cana Wedding

There are so many favourites that it’s hard to choose, but we wanted to give just a taste of some of the weddings we’ve been working on this year, so here we go with our favourite five.

Jenn and Lawrence were married in Punta Cana, and I’m really wishing we could go back to the beach – so beautiful! We just put the final touches on their album set and loved how perfectly their wedding came together. A week in an exotic location with beautiful weather, sun, sand, and surf with a huge group of close family and friends. Bliss.

I’ve discovered it’s practically impossible to choose only five, but I also believe that a single image can speak volumes so here are five that stood out to me!

Hello Everyone!

Long time, no chat. How has your summer been? Did you go places, see new things, play in the surf?

We’ve had an AMAZING summer – so many new babies to photograph and carefree happy kids to chase, a couple dozen wonderful weddings, laughter laughed and tears shed for touching vows, memorable speeches, and sunny days. Seriously, I believe we have the best job on the planet.

We’ve also tried really hard to have some balance, so the occasional day at the beach with a great read on my kindle and a guitar in Reilly’s hand has taken priority over our blog, so we could recharge and be ready to do what we do best each day in the office – from shooting through to editing and designing stunning albums for our clients. This time of year is always tough as we’re heads down working through the culmination of months of shooting, but we’re close to winning so we’re happy about that.

I have to say though, I’m SO EXCITED about fall! Sweaters and scarves are two of my favourite things, and I love the crisp cool air. We’ve spent time in the kitchen canning for the first time ever (can’t let the delicious farmer’s market & csa organic veggies go to waste!), and I’m dreaming of pot roasts in the crock pot and apple crisp in the oven. And, of course, many cozy nights around the table with friends.

We’ve got two big things to share before I go, but I’ll be back soon with all the oh-so-delicious stuff we’ve been keeping to ourselves for the past while.

First up, babies & kids! So many of our wedding clients come back to us when they start a family, and I melt a little each time that I get to meet and cuddle any new arrival. As babies become kids and trade sleeping soundly for running around as fast as their legs can take them, we join in on the fun. So, on that note, we quietly launched our babies & kids division over the summer. And – the second thing I wanted to share – we are deeply thankful to each and every one of our clients and friends who voted for us again in the Georgia Straight reader’s choice awards! To be honest we completely forgot to even remind anyone to vote so there were no tweets or newsletter mentions at all (Reilly didn’t even fill out his own ballot!), which made the call to let us know we had won again that much more a surprise. We’ve been named the Best Wedding Photographers in Vancouver for the third straight row, so a giant THANK YOU to each of you.

Rahel & Nathan’s Swaneset Bay Resort Wedding

Rahel & Nathan’s wedding was one I eagerly looked forward to – we knew this would be a really fun party crowd, Rahel & Nathan were a blast to be around, and the vendor lineup was killer! The day didn’t disappoint. Swaneset Bay is a stunning venue, with perfect blue skies and red carpet entrance for the crowd.

They were wed by Tracy Sheppard who I adore, Shari was with the Blue Olive team, Streetlight Creative on video, The Young Executives had everyone ripping up the dance floor and the whole place looked amazing thanks to decor by Wedding Design Studio.
