What do you get when a bunch of photographers get together…

Last week we were very excited to play host to our very good friend and Toronto wedding photographer extraordinaire John Edgar! It was a blast sharing this city through our eyes with him, and we drove all over everywhere to point out our favorite bits.

At the same time, photographers Rob & Lauren from Edmonton were in town, so it was only logical that we have a bit of a get together so they could meet some of the other photographers in the area!

And, as is the case any time you get a bunch of photo geeks together, the studio was put to great use. A few days prior to our get together Reilly and a few of our friends saw it fit that the empty refrigerator box that had been hanging out in the lobby *clearly* needed to become a prop in the studio for the weekend, and there’s a whole book of photos to show for it.

Here are a few of our favourite shots!

Rigoletto at the Vancouver Opera!

On Saturday night I was very excited to be invited along with a small group of local bloggers to Rigoletto at the Vancouver Opera!

The Vancouver Opera is trying to appeal to a broader audience and they’ve made a number of recent marketing changes including my favorite addition – blogger night.

Having never been to an opera, my completely uninformed ideas included many fancy hats and high pitched singing in languages I didn’t understand. Wow, was I wrong.

After reading the blogs of friends who were lucky enough to live blog Carmen in January, Reilly and I forked out for some prime tickets to take it in ourselves. Not only were there fancy hats, but there were also a great number of regular outfits – enough to make us feel completely *in* place. To my surprise and appreciation, there were also subtitles for those whose foreign language skills leave much to be desired, ensuring the performance was easy to follow along with. And of course, there was an incredible story told through the amazing voices of characters decked out in gorgeous costumes and set in a fantastic set.

Long story short, we loved it, and visiting the Opera has definitely landed itself a place on our yearly to-do list.

So – when the Vancouver Opera invited even more bloggers back for round two with Saturday’s opening of Rigoletto – I was *ecstatic* when Kimli of Delicious Juice invited me along!

Kimli (blog.deliciousjuice.com) and I joined my very dear friend Tanya (www.netchick.ca) and other local blogger friends Rebecca (www.miss604.com), Tris Hussey (www.trishussey.com), and Monique (www.somisguided.com) to live blog the opera!

The evening started with a backstage tour which was really very cool – the set is so very different from that of Carmen, and it was neat to see it from the perspective of the cast and crew. And, when the show was done, we got to head back stage for an opening night cast party. What a night! Rigoletto as a show was *FANTASTIC*, the singing was incredible, and I loved their use of a very non traditional set. Definitely a great time all the way around.

SO – if you’ve never been to an opera or if you have but haven’t yet been out to Rigoletto, this is definitely the time to change that! The Vancouver Opera is even having a two for one ticket sale for the March 17th show. You can find info about the show on their website at http://www.vancouveropera.ca/, and you can snag ticketsby calling 604-683-0222 with the promo code 1670.

For all those planning weddings and for everyone who needs to just get away for a few hours, this is the perfect night out for just the two of you. Don’t miss it!

Nelson & Jana’s Seasons Restaurant Wedding

bop Wedding Photography 5 Comments

Weddings are always extra special for us when we know the people getting married, and in this case it was our friend Nelson who was tying the knot!

The wedding just days before Christmas turned into a much more winter themed event than ever thought possible for Vancouver with the blizzards rolling in the night before. With 4 wheel drive engaged and even a backup photographer figured out and on call in the chance we got stuck or snarled up in a fender bender on the way (all very likely given the crazy weather and the trip to south Richmond for the getting ready!), we were off.

Walking in to Jana’s home my eyes definitely lit up when I saw what she was wearing – no white winter number for her. Instead, Jana rocked the sassiest little hot pink dress compliments of Betsey Johnson that I’ve ever seen!

The day was a beautifully intimate affair with close friends and family safely tucked inside the warmth of Seasons restaurant while the snow blew outside. We captured just a few images with the snow for posterity, and stuck to the fireplace for warmth after that.

We recently headed out for an after session to rock all after sessions with these two so more will definitely be coming of that, but for now, here are a few of our absolute favorite wedding day shots!

And now – that is *officially* a wrap for our 2008 weddings. We can’t wait to start posting our 2009 events!

Candace & Ed’s Orpheum + Marine Drive Golf Club Wedding

One of our last weddings of the year, we looked forward to this date for a long time!

And how could we not – an absolute dream team of vendors headed up by the fabulous Tanya Peters at Milestone Events included Tracey as our third shooter for the day, Kathy and Steph from Marliss Productions on video, and Deliciously Yours for the cake to name just a few. Tanya did an incredible job on decor and coordination in particular, which was an absolute treat 🙂

The ceremony – wow. Candace & Ed chose The Orpheum Theatre to tie the knot and… wow. Tracey definitely got the shot of the day with her position on the upper floors – simply stunning. Even in photos it’s hard to really communicate just how perfect this venue was.

Despite the cold December date we had a wedding party full of troopers and we were able to get some outdoor photos as well before heading off to the winter themed reception at the Marine Drive Golf Club.

I had a hard time trying to narrow down what to show, I could have filled this post with so many different things. I opted for a bit of a peak at everything from the ceremony to the photo session to the decor. Enjoy!

Susan & Raj’s Burnaby Village Museum Wedding

The Burnaby Village Museum was the perfect backdrop for Susan & Raj’s fall wedding.

Following the ceremony was a photo session for two at Canada Place – the perfect setting as it’s where Raj’s ship came in when he first came to Vancouver and where they met for the very first time. The sun was shining and the day was gorgeous…. it couldn’t have been more perfect!

Shouts out to Jeanie for second shooting. And, without further adieu, a few of our favorite shots!

Colin & Jacqui’s Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club Wedding

When the first thing you hear when meeting with new clients is “If we wanted to cliff dive in cheesy wedding outfits for our engagement session, are you game?” – you know things are going to be nothing but fun!

Colin & Jacqui chose Canadian Memorial Church followed by the ever classic Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club as the backdrop to their wedding day this fall.

Tamara second shot for us and vendors including Manuel Mendoza for the gown, Sweet Obsessions for the cake, and Coveted Covers for the decor came together to put on their wonderfully elegant event.

Cheers to you both!

It’s January…. the fog has set in… Indie I Do is over and was a tremendous success (photos and details to come!)…. and it’s finally time to catch up on all the long overdue blogging I have piled up!

With fewer weddings over the winter months I wanted to keep a few things back to show you at this time of year, too. I think I have 5 recent weddings in addition to images from all of the engagement, portrait, and trash the dress sessions we’ve done over the last 8 months all waiting to make their blog debut, so there will be lots to see to brighten up the January days!

First – the beautiful fall wedding of Catalina & Chris. Jeanie second shot with Reilly for this classically beautiful affair held at Vancouver’s Marriott Pinnacle hotel. The day in a few of our favourite images….
