Our Podcast!

bop Blue Olive Photography News 2 Comments

I’m so excited – our podcast is up on Posh Wedding Video Podcast – a website featuring video interviews with some of Vancouver’s best wedding vendors! You all need to check out the site at www.poshwedpod.com – it is a GREAT way to “meet” a number of hand selected local vendors as you work through your wedding planning.

You can watch the interview with Reilly and me through the site, or by clicking the image below. The site uses Quicktime (click “movie doesn’t play? click here!” when it opens for the mpeg version if you prefer), and takes a bit to load so walk away and grab a coffee while it downloads so you can watch it uninterrupted.

Chinese New Year Parade 2007

Reilly and I went out with our friend Angela (of Angela Hubbard Photography – you can find her wonderful work here!) to take some pictures of the Chinese New Year Parade today.

Here are a few of the images I took – complete with shots of both Reilly and Angela.

Enjoy!

Christina & Mounir

This was one of my most anticipated weddings, and it truly did not dissapoint. Between the dress, the amazing vintage hat, and the venues chosen for their character and age, this wedding was all about class!

Earlier this month we did the engagement shoot of Lisa and Brian in advance of their March wedding. Way too much fun! We ran around Yaletown in the rain, looking for various nooks and crannies to capture the fun that these two were having all on their own. Here are a couple of our fav images – this will definitely be a wedding full of smiles and laughter, and we can’t wait!

Cheryl & Walt – The Wedding

Cheryl & Walt had the most wonderful winter wedding nestled in the walls of the Vancouver Club this past Saturday.

We snuck away for a few minutes between the ceremony and reception for a few portraits, including this one in the lobby highlighting the detail of the dress and a moment between the newlyweds –

Congratulations again, guys! The wedding was absolutely beautiful, and it was such an honour to be there to document it for you!

We first met with Cheryl & Walt just 2 weeks ago and in super fast tracked style we shot their engagement session on Christmas Eve and we’ll be documenting their wedding on January 6th. Sometimes when you know what you want you know what you want – after life and problems with a double booked venue put their originally planned September wedding on hiatus they weren’t sure when things would come together. Rather than waiting though, they decided to take advantage of the slow season allowing them to pull together the perfect wedding for them in the shortest possible timeframe!

From the details we’ve heard the wedding is going to be fantastic, and the Vancouver Club will be the perfect backdrop. We’ll look forward to sharing the images from our first wedding of 2007 with you as soon as they’re ready!

And now for something completely different…

bop Wedding Photography 2 Comments

Every time we pick up our cameras to photograph a wedding we are charged with capturing the memories of a couple and of a family that will be cherished and looked at for years to come. These are the images that will be carefully tucked away to be shown to children, to grandchildren. We aren’t just creating art for today – we are entrusted to document events which will be looked at by the families of our clients 50 or 100 years from now.

When I look through the images that have been proudly displayed and those that have been carefully tucked away and stored for so many years in my own family, I get a glimpse of the lives of my loved ones that I never had the ability to see. When people look at our photos years from now, I want them to see not only how everyone looked but to also get a feel for who they were then – whether they were wonderfully quiet and introspective with a wedding draped in elegance or if they were outgoing with a flair for being different, that’s what I want them to see.

If anyone was ever the quintessential big sister, it was me. No matter how old he gets, my little brother will always be my little brother. For those that know Roy, you know that unique hardly describes him, and the concept of marriage and wedding would stun and surprise almost anyone who has met him. For me, having gotten to know Tara when they were inseparable in junior high and high school years ago, it caused a chuckle but no real surprise when they not only had found each other again in this crazy world of ours but when they told us that they had eloped, knowing they didn’t ever want to lose each other again.

Of course, to elope means no wedding and celebration for the family, so in just 3 short weeks a party was thrown together so we could all get together and raise a glass to Roy & Tara. As the big sister who demands only the best, I was the remote wedding coordinator and day of decorator, I was the queen of seeking out the most perfect desserts, I was the MC, and I was the photographer, too, along with Reilly (so, although we got married 6 years ago, I have recent experience in what all all of you planning weddings are going through!). The focus was the party and that’s what we put on, and it was wonderful.

And, for once, instead of documenting the memories for everyone else, we got to turn the cameras on our own family and record our own.

Agnes & Frankie

We had the pleasure of finally meeting Agnes & Frankie a few weeks ago when they travelled to Vancouver from their home in Calgary – they booked us for their wedding earlier this year but this was the first opportunity they had to come down to Vancouver to visit and plan some more wedding details since. They’ll be getting married here next August and after their engagement shoot, we really can’t wait!

Besides, if this is what they wore for the engagement session, I can’t wait to see what the actual wedding attire looks like!
